Sonic Hexacide is a very cool fan made sonic game that sees Sonic running, jumping and spinning his way through some cleverly designed cylindrical levels.
It can take a minute to get used to the cylindrical 3D level design of Sonic Hexacide, but it really makes a lot of sense, and actually makes for a much better game than any of Sonic’s official 3D outings. As in the original games there are multiple routes through the levels, with secrets to find. You can take your time through each level, but as with most Sonic games, it really gets fun when you just run as fast as you can and attempt to reach the finish as quickly as possible.
There’s a lot of content in Sonic Hexacide, with bosses and plenty of great looking cylindrical re-imaginings of classic Sonic levels spread across the world map. It’s easily one of the best Sonic fan games we’ve come across and is way better than the majority of Sega’s official 3D Sonic releases. We’d love to see Sega try using this cylindrical design on an official Sonic game, as it really does feel like a good fit for the blue hedgehog. The only way that classic Sonic gameplay really makes any sense sense in 3D.
