Soul Void is a beautifully crafted Game Boy styled pixel art horror adventure where you find yourself trapped inside a dark void, filled with lost souls and a malicious entity known as “The Grim”.
In Soul Void you take on the role of a newcomer to “The Void”, a strange and surreal place that exists somewhere between life and the afterlife. The Void is neither a good or a bad place – it simply manifests the feelings and emotions of the souls that are trapped within it. However, negative emotions can be strong and some souls have been trapped there for a long time, so you’ll see some pretty freaky sights on your journey.
There are lots of lost souls to talk to as you explore the Void, most of whom are friendly and some of whom may need your aid in some way. However, there is one powerful entity known as The Grim, who strikes fear in the heart of everyone you meet and who has taken a particular dislike to you. To escape you’ll need to face The Grim and you’ll also face your own fears and anxieties, as the Void manifests some of your negative emotions.
Unfortunately Soul Void has no sound FX or music, but it more than makes up for it with its powerful narrative, interesting lore and beautiful pixel artwork. It takes around an hour and a half to play through and the time just flies by, with each new area you visit, filled with more strange characters to meet and lore to discover. Highly recommended.
