Space Runaway is an excellent 16-bit styled side-scrolling arcade shoot ’em up where you jump in a mech and attempt to save humanity from an alien invasion.
A 16-bit spin off of Wanted: Dead (from the creators of Ninja Gaiden and Dead or Alive), Space Runaway is a retro arcade shoot ’em up where you blast your way through seven challenging levels. The gameplay is akin to arcade classics such as R-Type and Gradius, with multiple upgradeable weapons, large levels and big boss fights.
There are no checkpoints in the levels and it only takes one hit to kill you so if can be petty tough, but Space Runaway can also be quite easy depending on your weapons and upgrades. It really looks the part and the levels are well designed to offer challenge while still being fair. An excellent slice of retro shoot ’em up action well worth pulling the trigger on.
