Super Mario Bros NES Game & Builder – Download

Super Mario Bros NES Game Builder

Super Mario Bros NES Game & Builder allows you to easily build, share and play your very own Mario games, in a pixel perfect simulation of the original Super Mario Bros Game.

There have been a few Mario game building tools released in the past, but nothing that matches the ease of use and authentic feel of Super Mario Bros NES Game & Builder.  Complete novices can pick it up and build a Mario level in minutes (although there is obviously a bit of skill in crafting a good level).  All the authentic tile sets from the Original Super Mario Bros are there, complete with enemies, pipes, warps and power-ups, as well as The Lost Levels tile set if you’re feeling a little more experimental.

Once your levels (or full games) are completed, you can then share them with friends and upload them to the official website, or download new user created games to play through yourself.  The real joy is in building the levels, but it’s also great to have an infinite amount of user created Mario levels to play though.  Nintendo are planning to release their Mario Maker game this year, with a bit of luck it’ll be as comprehensive and easy to use as this magnificent fan made Mario building toolkit!

Controls:  Point & Click for editor,   Arrow Keys, Z & X for gameplay

Available On:  Windows, Mac & Linux

UPDATE: Unfortunately, Super Mario Bros NES Game & Builder Is No Longer Available (Nintendo’s Lawyers Seem To Have Squashed It)

  1. Andrew Kellogg finally got a DMCA notice from Nintendo, and as a result both his official website and the gamejolt page are down for good. I happen to have the last unreleased dev version for it, which I was working on by myself before the DMCA. If you want it, leave a reply and I’ll figure something out. It just seems a shame to see such a good game go to waste.

    • Damn, that’s a real shame. It was a great game and very easy to use. I guess legally we can’t host the game either, but if there was a link posted in the comments then we couldn’t really do anything about that…. 😉

  2. That really sucks. Is there anywhere that still has some levels that can be downloaded? I might have a few (5 or 6) on my hard drive that I can post somewhere.

  3. Hey man, can I have it please? I am stuck with the old version and will really like it.

  4. His page was taken down.

  5. Man, I’m so sad. I went to reinstall this game after reformatting and found out it was taken down. This game, in my opinion, was the most polished mario maker for PC I’ve ever seen. I’m pretty sure it was hurting Nintento sales, they’re just big bullies D:

Anyway man, I’m definitely interested in a copy, though I don’t want to post my email address here for obvious reasns.

  6. I meant to say “wasn’t hurting Nintendo sales”. Early morning typos. My bad xD

Seriously?! That sucks! I’ve never played it before, and I was looking forward to use it to create “Super Mario Bros. Return”. Guess I’m gonna have to wait for Garry’s Mod.

  8. Or maybe Luigi’s Mansion!

  9. If you can, I’d really love to get the editor. I used to have it, but lost the file for it on my previous laptop. I was looking around for it until I found that it got taken down. I’d really appreciate it.
