That Night, Steeped in Blood River is a beautiful, surreal and trippy experimental exploration game where you travel to strange dream-like worlds through rooms in a hotel.
Created by Taylor Sweitanski, creator of (Caged Bird Don’t Fly…) That Night, Steeped in Blood River is a poetic exploration game with hidden puzzle elements set in a strange hotel. Each room of the hotel transports you to a different bizarre landscape that has a unique theme, one main route and some hidden secrets to discover.
It’s a fascinating place to explore, with lots of gorgeous high contrast retro styled visuals that do a great job of showing off the game’s surreal architecture. The soundtrack is incredibly tranquil and relaxing and there are some great little touches – like being able to draw on a piece of paper to sign in to different areas of the hotel. With at least two endings (and possibly a third) it’ll take some time to uncover all secrets of That Night, Steeped in Blood River and it’s a delightful experience trying to find them. Highly recommended.
