The Anchorite is a short horror point and click adventure where a young boy is locked in a tower and told to seek enlightenment for the rest of his life.
Created by Beyond Booleans (creator of Teeth of Glass and Abscission), The Anchorite is a point and click adventure that follows the story of a young boy who has been selected to become “The Anchorite”. This is an honored position, which you’re told will see you wanting for nothing, but it does mean you’ll stay locked up and isolated in a tall tower that overlooks the kingdom.
You grow up in the tower and every day you complete simple tasks, such as washing your clothes or planting vegetables. Your overall goal is to seek enlightenment and doing so will not only help you, but the surrounding kingdom. It’s a solitary, peaceful and uneventful life, but one day you spy something out the window that causes things to change.
Taking around 40 minutes to play through, it’s a cleverly crafted story that takes some unexpected turns along the way. Meanwhile, the pixel artwork and excellent writing really help to elevate the experience. Highly recommended.
