The Fall of the Buxhaven Family is a very creepy retro styled psychological horror adventure where nightmarish visions and monsters plague a doctor as he returns home after an exhausting day at the hospital.
In The Fall of the Buxhaven Family you follow the story of James Buxhaven, a doctor who lives in a large mansion with his wife, daughter and pet dog. After returning home from work one evening and saying goodnight to his family, he notices a mysterious stranger lurking in the house, and from there on in things start to get weird… and dangerous.
As you explore your house, searching for clues, answers and your family, you run into freaky monsters that sap your sanity and increase your heart rate if they catch you. The screen fills with static as your heart rate increases and if it reaches 300bpm you’ll have a heart attack and die – so you really need to stay clear of the monsters or find a way to dispatch them.
Taking around 45 minutes to play through, The Fall of the Buxhaven Family is a very tense and atmospheric adventure that manages to squeeze a surprising amount of terror from its retro pixel art visuals. The visual style is a little reminiscent of FAITH, but The Fall of the Buxhaven Family is very much its own thing and the tale that it weaves is delightfully dark and twisted. Highly recommended.
