The Night When He Left is a beautiful, touching and very personal game where you find solace at the bottom of a wine bottle while coping with the memories you’re left with after a particularly rough break up.
Drawing inspiration from Florence and Gone Home, The Night When He Left is a short narrative driven experience about coping with the revisitation of painful memories of your ex. The majority of the memories are good memories, they’re just painful because he’s no longer that to share them with you.
Each memory you walk through is accompanied by a beautiful piano score and some breathtakingly beautiful visuals that make you feel like you’re walking through a painting. As you walk through each one words appear that give you more information about that memory. You soon realise that there are three important entities referred to in the story – “I”, “you” and “him” and that “you” is the large amounts of wine consumed to help sedate the echoes of “him”.
It’s a touching and powerful experience that is very relatable and full of incredible imagery (both written and visual). You can feel the emotion behind every word and understand why you turn to the bottle to help wash them away. Highly recommended.
