The Picky Horror Show is a charming PICO-8 reimagining of the 1985 C64 classic The Rocky Horror Picture Show game, where you attempt to escape RiffRaff’s deadly mansion.
In The Picky Horror Show you are dropped into the infamous castle from The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Your mission: collect flashing green components to rebuild the De-Medusa device and rescue your petrified partner before the Time Warp strikes. You can only carry one green component at time too, so
You need to navigate the castle while avoiding RiffRaff’s murderous inventions and other characters who’ll strip you of your clothes – leaving you “vulnerable” until you recover your garments. Also, you’ll need to watch the Deep Freeze temperature gauge carefully; when it hits zero, Eddie roars through on his motorcycle with increasing speed.
The fact that you can only carry one green component at a time is a little annoying, but other than that it’s a fantastic little game. The pixel art visuals are excellent, there’s a good selection of rooms to explore, the chip-tune soundtrack is excellent. Highly recommended.
