The Red Mummy is a wonderfully weird mini-metroidvania adventure with a quirky sense of humor, great pixel art animation and a fun narrative that’s told via comic book panels that are embebbed within the game world.
The Red Mummy draws inspiration from the Castlevania series and 70’s horror comics to create a darkly humorous adventure with challenging open world action platforming gameplay. You control a Mummy that’s been summoned to do some evil bidding, after which you’re then banished back down to the underworld known as the Undercrust without and feet or hands. Obviously you’re not too happy about that, so set out on a short and strange adventure as you attempt to get your apendages back.
It takes around 15 minutes to complete The Red Mummy, with you exploring the underworld, battling enemies, squirming through crevices and discovering fun secrets. It has some great little touches, such as being able to choose who to kill in the intro scene and the stylish comic book artwork that embeds itself within the game world.
It’s a unique little adventure that’s full of fun surprises and great artwork. A challenging mini-metroidvania that feels like you’re playing from within the pages of a pulp horror comic book. Highly recommended.
