The Town of Beacon is an eerie Cold War era Sci-Fi adventure that sees you searching a mysterious town for clues after you hear a large crashing sound.
You’ve heard a crashing sound coming from the North, from a town called Beacon, so you grab a lantern and set out to investigate. You can knock over the occasional object and turn your light on and off, but for the most part you don’t really interact with anything in The Town of Beacon, you simply explore, observe and unravel its mystery. It is an intriguing mystery too – there’s quite a lot of weaponry, restricted areas and radios that are broadcasting strange signals. Just what is going on in the town of Beacon?
The Town of Beacon is quite creepy thanks to the excellent audio design, but it’s more of a dark Sci-Fi mystery than a full blown horror game. It has the eerie and uncanny atmosphere of an 80’s B-movie or an episode of The Twilight Zone – which is compounded by the fact that the visuals veer between looking highly realistic and oddly plasticy throughout. It’s a captivating experience with a great sense of atmosphere and some clever audio/visual design. Highly recommended.
