The Wailer is a tense and highly stylized first person horror game where you explore an ancient dungeon that’s home to a huge wailing monster.
In The Wailer you are trapped in an ancient dungeon that’s home to an horrifying monster that roams the labyrinthine passageways. To escape you’ll need to explore, find useful objects and solve puzzles, but to do so you’ll need to see, which comes at a price.
You have a flaming torch which illuminates the area around you, and can be used to activate mechanisms. However, it takes a while to recharge and you need to use it to light urns which repel the monster. You’ll need to find a balance between illumination and survival as you really don’t want to get caught out without enough flame to light an urn when you’re in trouble!
There are a few minor issues with The Wailer. The recharge rate of the flame is painfully slow and there are areas where it’s possible to get blocked in by the monster. However, if you can navigate the labyrinth and manage your light well then there’s a lot to like. It’s a very tense and atmospheric experience, it’s got a great visual style and the monster is very cool. See if you can escape the labyrinth of The Wailer!
