This Game Is Real is a survival first person psychological horror adventure based on some strange dreams someone once posted on a horror story forum.
The bizarre first person horror of This Game Is Real is based on the the posts of a member of a horror forum that the game’s developer once frequented, which contained vivid and unsettling account of their weirdest dreams. These dreams were eerily similar to the devs worst nightmares and stuck with him for a long time. The forum isn’t around anymore, but the dev remembers the final post of the dreamer being “I think these dreams are real”.
Because This Game Is Real is based on dreams, the narrative is a little strange and the setting can change quite abruptly (much like in a dream). This gives the game a surreal and uncanny atmosphere, where you’re never too sure what’s going to happen next or where the next door will lead.
Taking around 15 minutes to play through, it’s a very creepy and unsettling little horror game. It’s got a very dream-like flow as you descend deeper into the nightmare. But the nightmare isn’t real. Is it?
Update: The game has now been updated with a second chapter, based on the dev’s own nightmares and fear or mirrors.
