UPSTREAM is an unsettling narrative driven horror visual novel where you go searching for a missing friend in a strange woodland.
In UPSTREAM you find yourself out in a woodland looking for a very close friend who has gone missing. It’s not too long after starting your trek that things start to get weird though – you get lost, you have some very strange encounters and time seems to stop. Will you find your friend and will you ever make it out of the forest alive?
There’s not really much in the way of gameplay in UPSTREAM (it is a very linear experience where you just click through text), but it’s very well written, the pixelated visual style works well and the story it weaves is delightfully dark. It does a great job of building up a deep sense of dread as you march towards its inevitable end. If you go down to the woods today you’re in for a big (and rather horrifying) surprise!
