Yarntown – Download Game

Yarntown is a Zelda styled top-down recreation of Bloodborne’s Central Yharnam area, complete with the Cleric Beast and Father Gascoigne fights!

Created by Max Mraz in the rather impressive Solarus engine, Yarntown is a homage to FromSoftware’s 2015 Bloodborne game, which recreates the entirety of the Central Yharnam area in a Zelda inspired top-down style. You start the game in the Hunter’s Dream area, (which you can return to and upgrade your weapon when you like) and then can set out into mean streets of Central Yharnam.

The entirety of the Central Yharnam is faithfully recreated, so there are multiple routes, unlockable shortcuts and all the majority of the different enemies – including the rabid dogs, the huntsman, the executioners, the rotted corpses and both the bosses (Cleric Beast and Father Gascoigne). Your combat skills are limited to a normal melee attack, a charged attack, pistol shots and a dodge roll – so combat is definitely more akin to Zelda than Bloodborne, but it does keep some Soulsian things, such as the stamina bar.

It’s a lot easier than Bloodborne and the Zelda-esque combat is fairly simple, but it’s nice to return to Central Yarnham and wander those gothic streets from a top-down perspective. It’s a great little homage to FromSoftware’s masterpiece and it’s nice to have a fight with Father Gascoigne where he doesn’t just repeatedly kick your ass for a change!
