Mass – Download Game

Mass is an interesting little experimental social puzzle game that will delete itself forever if nobody plays it.

Created by the talented Iseeicy, (creator of You Played Yourself and Eternal September), Mass is an innovative networked experiment where the players literally keep the game alive. It’s played in first person and sees you entering a large retro styled cyberspace with some complicated looking equipment in the center of it. As it’s an anchored point in an online cyberspace, you’ll also be able to see anyone else that’s logging in at the same time as you.

The mass in the center is supported by four life-support modules which you have to activate to keep them powered up. To activate the life support modules you solve a little puzzle (with differently themed puzzles for each module) and they all have batteries, so they can last roughly six hours without anyone logging in. However, if one of the life support modules depletes fully then the mass in the center will begin to die, causing the game to delete itself forever.

It’s a fantastic concept that makes for a very interesting little social experiment and the retro aesthetic is very cool. It would be nice if there was a little more to do in the shared cyberspace, but perhaps that will evolve over time if the game survives.

    1. There’s a new update to the game! You just need to re-download it from itch.io. In the future it will tell you it’s out of date.
