Through the Screen is an incredibly touching and wonderfully geeky visual novel adventure that tells the true tale of finding love via fanfiction.
Through the Screen tells the true story of two young fanfiction writers who find love in a very unlikely place. Ariza lives in America and Toni lives in Italy, but both start corresponding with each other over their love of Minecraft: Story Mode fan fiction which they’ve posted on www.fanfiction.net. They soon hit it off and form a friendship over their shared love of writing – reading each other’s stories, offering constructive feedback and chatting via a chat group. Things blossom from there, but Arzia will tell you the rest in the game!
The gameplay in Through the Screen is simple, with only a few limited choices you make throughout, but the artwork and writing are superb. The fanfiction chat is super geeky, but in a good way and really makes Ariza and Toni’s shared passion for it all the more endearing.
What makes the story of Through the Screen so captivating though is its honesty and realism. It’s not a Hollywood love story with grand gestures and fake feelings – it’s an open and frank little love story about how two people found love in the real world while writing about Minecraft’s one.
